AICTE to open gates for corporate for education projects

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is considering permission to corporate to start colleges in the next few years. The Companies formed under Section 25 of Companies act may be considered for this purpose.

This was said by Dr S S Mantha, Chairman, AICTE, while delivering a key note address during a seminar on “Education Reforms: Role of Regulatory Bodies” organized by PHD Chamber.

Earlier to this, Dr.Anshu Kataria, Chairman, Aryans Business School & Convener, Education Sub-Committee, PHD Chamber in his inaugural address requested AICTE to open doors for corporate for education. Kataria said that this would not only attract big corporate houses to invest in education sector but would also attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in education sector.

Mr. Dalip Sharma, Regional Director, PHD Chamber also addressed around 150 Chairman/Directors of various engineering, management, pharmacy, hotel management, architecture colleges, etc of Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, J & K.

It is to be mentioned that till date only government, semi government organizations, societies, trusts, are permitted to start educational projects. Recently, Medical council of India has also decided to consider Corporates for starting hospitals.

“All the stakeholders should work together for the education system to improve,” Dr Mantha informed that AICTE does not recognize distance education, though it has allowed double shift in the educational institutes. He said that the aim should be to get more and more eligible people into higher education. Dr.Mantha said that higher education is undergoing metamorphosis throughout the world especially in this side of world where the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) is very less as compared to countries like US having 60% of GER.
